How does it work?
Reviparin is a low molecular weight heparin (LMWH). It is composed of fragments of naturally-occurring heparin which has been extracted from the intestinal wall of pigs.
Heparin and reviparin work by interfering with the body's natural blood clotting mechanism. This mechanism involves a series of complex pathways. Heparin and reviparin inactivate a compound in this pathway called thrombin, which plays an important role in blood clot formation. Therefore, heparin and reviparin prevent the formation of blood clots in the body.
Reviparin has many advantages over normal heparin. These include a more effective anti-clotting action and reduced risk of bleeding.
Reviparin is given by injection under the skin. It is used for the prevention of blood clots in individuals undergoing surgery.
What is it used for?
Prevention of blood clot formation in the veins during and after surgery
