How can this medicine affect other medicines?
If you are taking other medicines that can cause light sensitivity (photosensitivity), there is a possibility that you may have an increased risk of photosensitivity reactions following treatment with verteporfin. Other photosensitising medicines include the following:
- tetracycline antibiotics, eg doxycycline, minocycline, tetracycline
- sulphonamide antibiotics, eg sulfadiazine, co-trimoxazole
- phenothiazines, eg chlorpromazine, prochlorperazine
- antidiabetic medicines of the sulfonylurea type, eg glibenclamide, gliclazide
- thiazide diuretics, eg bendrofluazide
- griseofulvin
- amiodarone.
Tell your doctor if you have recently taken any medicines, including herbal medicines and those bought without a prescription, before you receive this treatment.
