How can this medicine affect other medicines?

When taken together with the following medicines, the effects of fosphenytoin may be increased: alcohol aspirin azapropazone amiodorone chloramphenicol metronidazole fluoxetine fluvoxamine tolbutamide fluconazole miconazole zidovudine benzodiazepines hypnotics diltiazem nifedipine disulfiram methylphenidate cimetidine sulfinpyrazone warfarin oestrogens isoniazid phenothiazines sulphonamides When taken together with the following medicines the effects of fosphenytoin may be reduced: carbamazepine folic acid sucralfate vigabatrin rifamycins chronic alcoholism tricyclic antidepressants The effects of the following medicines may be reduced when taken together with fosphenytoin: anticoagulants such as nicoumalone and warfarin cardiac glycosides such as digoxin corticosteroids doxycycline clozapine oestrogens and progestogens such as those in the oral contraceptive pill thyroxine theophylline rifampicin anti-fungal agents anti-neoplastic agents The effects of the following medicines may be increased when taken together with fosphenytoin: warfarin The effects of phenytoin on the blood levels of other anticonvulsant medicines are unpredictable.
