How can this medicine affect other medicines?
There may be an increase in the blood level of atorvastatin and an increased risk of muscle damage (myopathy) if atorvastatin is taken with the following medicines:
- ciclosporin
- fibrates, eg bezafibrate
- erythromycin
- clarithromycin
- itraconazole
- niacin
- nelfinavir.
Colestipol decreases the absorption of this medicine from the gut. If both are required, their doses should be separated by at least 4 hours.
When taken with digoxin, atorvastatin may increase the blood levels of digoxin. This should be monitored.
When taken together with antacids containing magnesium and aluminium there is a decrease in the blood levels of atorvastatin.
