Side effects

Drowsiness and lightheadedness the next day

Unexpected excitement (paradoxical excitement)

Difficulty breathing

How can this medicine affect other medicines?

There may be an increase in sedation if amobarbital is taken with other sedatives, hypnotics or tranquilisers (e.g. temazepam), or alcohol. Alcohol should be avoided when taking amobarbital. Amobarbital may decrease the blood levels of: Corticosteroids Doxycycline and oral anti-clotting medicines such as warfarin. The blood levels of both amobarbital and phenytoin are altered when these medicines are taken together.
