Side effects

Allergy to active ingredients (hypersensitivity)
Blood disorders
Red colouration of urine
Pain in the muscles (myalgia)
Joint pain (arthralgia)
Yellowing of the skin and eyes (jaundice)
Alteration in results of liver function tests
Rash (allergic reaction)
Nausea and vomiting
Discolouration of tears and sweat
Inflammation of the front parts of the eye (uveitis)
Difficulty in breathing (dyspnoea)
The side effects listed above may not include all of the side effects reported by the drug's manufacturer.

How can this medicine affect other medicines?
Rifabutin decreases the concentration of the following medications in the blood:
-Disopyramide, mexiletine, propafenone, quinidine (anti-arrhythmics)
-Dapsone
-Nicoumalone and warfarin (blood-thinning medications)
-Chlorpropamide and tolbutamide (and possibly other sulphonylurea antidiabetic drugs)
-Phenytoin and carbamazepine (antiepileptics)
-Indinavir and saquinavir (antivirals)
-Corticosteroids
-Cyclosporin
-Oral contraceptives
Rifabutin levels in the blood are increased by the following:
-Clarithromycin (and possibly other macrolide antibacterials). A reduced dose of rifabutin should be used.
-Fluconazole and possibly other triazole antifungals. A reduced dose of rifabutin should be used.
-Indinavir, nelfinavir, ritonavir (antivirals)
Rifabutin may cause transplant rejection when given with azathioprine.
