Orciprenaline sulphate (Contd)

How can this medicine affect other medicines?

This medicine should not be taken with beta-blockers such as atenolol, propranolol or timolol. This is because beta-blockers have an opposite action to this medicine and can cause the airways to narrow. This can result in breathing difficulties for people with asthma or chronic obstructive airways disease. Orciprenaline can decrease the level of potassium in the blood (hypokalaemia). Potassium levels may be further reduced by the following medicines, which may result in adverse effects. Discuss this with your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines with orciprenaline:- - xanthine derivates such as theophylline - corticosteroids such as beclometasone or prednisolone - diuretics such as bendrofluazide or frusemide - other beta-agonist bronchodilators, eg salbutamol or terbutaline.
