Selexid Tablets

How does it work?

Pivmecillinam hydrochloride is an orally active antibiotic. It is converted in the body into mecillinam, the active agent. Pivmecillinam interferes with the biosynthesis of the bacterial cell wall however its activity is slightly different from that of other penicillins and cephalosporins. For this reason, as synergistic effect is obtained when pivmecillinam is combined with other penicillins or cephalosporins. It is used to treat infections due to mecillinam-sensitive organisms such as urinary tract infections, salmonellosis and typhoid fever.
