Lemsip Cold and Flu Combined Relief Capsules (Contd)

How can this medicine affect other medicines?

A dangerous rise in blood pressure may occur when phenylephrine is taken with monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) antidepressants, such as phenelzine or tricyclic antidepressants such as amitriptyline. This medicine should therefore not be taken at the same time as or within 2 weeks of taking a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) or a tricyclic anti-depressant. This medicine should not be taken at the same time as the following medicines as the combination may cause a rise in blood pressure: decongestants appetite suppressants amphetamine-like stimulants As phenylephrine can increase blood pressure, this medicine should not be taken by people taking blood pressure lowering medication, except on the advice of a doctor. Prolonged or regular use of paracetamol may increase the effect of anti-clotting medicines such as warfarin, leading to an increased risk of bleeding. Blood monitoring may need to be performed. Occasional doses of paracetamol do not have this effect. Cholestyramine may reduce the absorption of paracetamol from the gut. Metoclopramide speeds the absorption of paracetamol from the gut and increases its effects.
