J Collis Browne's Tablets

How does it work?

This medicine contains morphine hydrochloride, light kaolin and calcium carbonate. Morphine hydrochloride belongs to a group of medicines called narcotic analgesics. Although its main use is as a strong pain killer, it also reduces gut movement (propulsive peristalsis) and is therefore effective in treating diarrhoea. Light kaolin is an adsorbent and when given by mouth, adsorbs (binds) toxic and other substances from the contents of the gut. Calcium carbonate is an antacid that also has constipating effect. This medicine is used for the symptomatic relief of occasional diarrhoea.
