How does it work?

Beechams max strength sore throat relief lozenges contain two active ingredients, benzalkonium chloride and hexylresorcinol. Benzalkonium chloride is an antiseptic and disinfectant agent, which is active against various bacteria. It kills micro-organisms that may be associated with various mouth and throat infections that cause a sore throat. Hexylresorcinol is an antiseptic that also has local anaesthetic effects. It's antiseptic action kills the bacteria that may be associated with sore throats, while it's anaesthetic action helps relieve the pain. The action of sucking the lozenge allows the active ingredients to work in the area of the discomfort, and also helps to coat, lubricate and soothe a sore throat.
