How does it work?

This preparation contains lignocaine hydrochloride and allantoin. Lignocaine is a local anaesthetic which acts to temporarily block the pathway of pain along nerve fibres. This allows relief from pain where the medicine has been applied. Allantoin acts as an astringent to cause the cells that it comes into contact with to shrink and dry out. This causes shrinkage of the haemorrhoid, thereby relieving the associated pain and discomfort. Haemorrhoids occur when veins in the wall of the rectum become swollen and irritated and may cause irritation and pain on passing stools. This preparation is used to relieve the symptoms of anal irritation associated with haemorrhoids.

This medicine should not be used if you are allergic to one or any of its ingredients. Please inform your doctor or pharmacist if you have previously experienced such an allergy.
