How does it work?

Mepyramine maleate belongs to a group of medicines called antihistamines. Histamine is a chemical produced by the body. It is stored in cells (mast cells) in almost all tissues of the body. When the body reacts to a foreign substance (an allergen e.g. insect stings), the mast cells release their stores of histamine. Histamine stimulates H-1 receptors causing the release of chemicals which together produce the symptoms of an allergic reaction, including inflammation, redness and itching of the skin. Mepyramine acts by blocking the binding of histamine to receptors and so relieves the typical symptoms of an allergic reaction. This cream is most effective when applied early to the affected area of skin.

Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

Certain medicines should not be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
