Benzydamine Cream

How does it work?

Difflam cream contains the active ingredient benzydamine hydrochloride. It is a pain killer, effective in reducing pain at a particular site, when applied directly to that site (local analgesic). It acts by preventing the formation of prostaglandins. Prostaglandins are hormone-like substances present in a wide variety of tissues and body fluids including the brain, lungs, womb and kidney. They have many actions such as causing contraction of muscles and mediating the inflammatory process. Inflammation is the body's response or reaction to injury and involves pain, heat, redness, swelling and loss of function of the affected part. By preventing the formation of prostaglandins, benzydamine is able to reduce inflammation and the pain associated with it. Benzydamine also acts as a local anaesthetic, causing numbness and so pain relief at the site of application. Difflam cream is used for the treatment of painful muscular inflammatory conditions.
