Anacal

How does it work?

Anacal ointment and suppositories contain a combination of heparinoid and lauromacrogol. Heparinoid blocks the production of a chemical called prostaglandin which the body produces in response to injury or certain diseases. Prostaglandins are responsible for causing swelling, pain and inflammation, and therefore heparinoid reduces these effects. It is also able to dissolve blood clots and improve the blood supply to the skin. Lauromacrogol acts as an anaesthetic to numb the area where it is applied. It also reduces the itch assoicated with anal conditions such as haemorrhoids. This is a soothing preparation, which when applied to the anal skin relieves the symptoms of piles (haemorrhoids) and other similar conditions. Haemorrhoids occur when veins in the wall of the rectum become swollen and irritated and may cause irritation and pain on passing stool.
