How can this medicine affect other medicines?
Anticancer medication.
- Cisplatin when used with bleomycin can increase the lung toxicity of bleomycin by reducing its removal by the kidneys from the body.
- Bleomycin and cisplatin when used with vinblastine sulphate may result in life-threatening harmful effects on the heart.
- Bleomycin when used with vinblastine or cisplatin may increase the risk of a side effect known as Raynaud's phenomenon.
Lung toxicity can occur in patients treated with bleomycin who are exposed to conventional oxygen during anaesthesia.
The response of the body to immunization is reduced by cytotoxic medicines. Therefore the effectiveness of vaccines may be poor and infection may occur in patients immunized with live vaccines.
