Side effects
Medicines and their possible side effects can affect individual people in different ways. The following are some of the side effects that are known to be associated with this medicine. Headache
Dry mouth
Changes in mood
Drowsiness
Confusion
Sweating
Disturbances of the gut such as diarrhoea, constipation, nausea, vomiting or abdominal pain
Awareness of your heartbeat (palpitations)
Loss of appetite
Difficulty in breathing (dyspnoea)
Loss of memory (amnesia)
A drop in blood pressure that occurs when going from lying down to sitting or standing, which results in dizziness and lightheadedness (postural hypotension)
Weakness or loss of strength (asthenia)
Skin reactions such as rash and itch
Abnormal dreams
Anxiety
Dizziness/faintness
Twitching
The side effects listed above may not include all of the side effects reported by the drug's manufacturer.

How can this medicine affect other medicines?
There may be a risk of side effects if this medicine is taken at the same time as medicines called monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs), for example the antidepressants phenelzine, tranylcypromine, or isocarboxacid. For this reason, the manufacturer states that this medicine should not be used by people who are taking MAOIs, or who have done in the previous 14 days.
There may be an increased risk of drowsiness and sedation if this medicine is taken with any of the following (which can also cause drowsiness):
- alcohol
- antidepressants, eg amitriptyline
- antipsychotics
- other opioids, eg morphine, codeine
- benzodiazepines, eg diazepam, temazepam
- sedating antihistamines, eg chlorpheniramine
- sleeping tablets.
