Side effects

Medicines and their possible side effects can affect individual people in different ways. The following are some of the side effects that are known to be associated with this medicine. Because a side effect is stated here, it does not mean that all people using this medicine will experience that or any side effect.

  • Headache
  • Rash
  • Itching (pruritus)
  • Abdominal pain
  • Disturbed sleep
  • Restlessness
  • Indigestion (dyspepsia)
  • Dizziness
  • Diarrhoea
  • Nausea and vomiting

    How can this medicine affect other medicines?

    When used with ciprofloxacin the following medications increase the risk of convulsions: - Non-steriodal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID's) - Theophylline (ciprofloxacin also increases the concentration of theophylline in the blood - monitor theophylline levels). The blood thinning effects of warfarin and nicoumalone are enhanced with ciprofloxacin. Ciprofloxacin increases the risk of kidney damage when used with cyclosporin. The manufacturer advises that opioid analgesics be avoided when using ciprofloxacin, as it decreases the levels of ciprofloxacin in the blood. Sucralfate reduces the absorption of ciprofloxacin - do not take within four hours of taking ciprofloxacin.
