Side effects

- Rash
- Confusion
- Eye irritation
- Nasal congestion
- Nasal irritation
- Disturbances of the gut such as diarrhoea, constipation, nausea, vomiting or abdominal pain
- Unexpected excitement (paradoxical excitement)
- Itchy rash (urticaria)

How can this medicine affect other medicines?

Alcohol and other medicines which have a sedative effect when taken with clomethiazole can cause serious and potentially life threatening collapse of heart and lung function. Such combinations should be avoided or the doses reduced appropriately. Cimetidine may increase the sedative effects of clomethiazole. Clomethiazole and diazoxide when given to pregnant women in labour can cause difficulties in breathing in their babies after birth.
