How can this medicine affect other medicines?

As yet there have been no significant interactions reported between this medicine and other medicines. However, you should tell your doctor or pharmacist what medicines you are using before you start treatment with this medicine. This includes those bought without a prescription and herbal medicines. Likewise, check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting any new medicines while you are taking this medicine, so they can check that the combination is safe.

There have been reports of a high rate of virological failure and the emergence of resistance at early stage when abacavir was combined with lamivudine plus tenofovir as triple therapy.

Other medicines containing the same active ingredient

There are currently no other medicines available in the UK that contain abacavir as the sole active ingredient.

Kivexa contains abacavir in combination with another anti-HIV medicine called lamivudine.

Trizivir contains abacavir in combination with two other anti-HIV medicines called lamivudine and zidovudine.
