Medicines and their possible side effects can affect individual people in different ways. The following are some of the side effects that are known to be associated with this medicine. How can this medicine affect other medicines?

Venlafaxine must not be taken at the same time as, or within two weeks of taking a monoamine-oxidase inhibitor antidepressant (MAOI), eg moclobemide. Conversely, a MAOI should not be started until at least one week after stopping venlafaxine. This is because using these medicines together can cause a serious and potentially life-threatening interaction. Cimetidine may cause an increase in the blood level of this medicine, which may cause problems in elderly people or those with impaired liver function. Venlafaxine may alter the anti-blood-clotting effect of anticoagulant medicines, such as warfarin. Blood clotting times should therefore be monitored in people taking anticoagulants if they start or stop taking venlafaxine.
