How can this medicine affect other medicines?

A dangerous rise in blood pressure may occur when pseudoephedrine is taken with monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) antidepressants such as phenelzine. Serious fever, hallucinations or coma may occur if dextromethorphan is taken at the same time as MAOI antidepressants. This medicine should therefore not be taken at the same time as or within 2 weeks of taking an MAOI anti-depressant. As pseudoephedrine can increase blood pressure, it should not be taken by people taking blood pressure lowering medicines, except on the advice of a doctor. When taken together with the following medicines pseudoephedrine may cause a rise in blood pressure:- decongestants tricyclic antidepressants appetite suppressants amphetamine-like stimulants There may be an increase in sedation if this medicine is taken with alcohol or medicines which cause drowsiness. These include:- sleeping medicines such as temazepam anxiety relieving medicines such as oxazepam antipsychotic medicines such as chlorpromazine other sedating antihistamines tricyclic antidepressants such as amitriptyline Cholestyramine may reduce the absorption of paracetamol from the gut. Metoclopramide may increase the speed of absorption from the gut and effects of paracetamol. Long term or regular use of paracetamol may increase the anti-clotting effect of warfarin and other anticoagulant medicines, leading to an increased risk of bleeding. Regular monitoring should be performed. This effect does not occur with occasional pain-killing doses.
