How does it work?

Zinc is an essential trace element which is involved in many enzyme systems. It is essential for the manufacture of proteins and DNA (the genetic material of cells). It is also required for the action of the hormone, insulin in controlling blood sugar levels. Zinc is necessary for controlling the normal rate of development of the reproductive organs, normal function of the prostate gland and healing of wounds and burns. Zinc is present in small amounts in a wide variety of foods. Supplements are required when there is reduced absorption of zinc due to certain intestinal disorders (e.g. cystic fibrosis) or when there is an increased zinc requirement e.g. sickle cell disease. major burns, alcohol-induced liver damage

    How can this medicine affect other medicines?

    When taken together, zinc may prevent the absorption of tetracyclines from the gut. An interval of at least three hours should be allowed between the two medicines.
