Pevaryl cream

How does it work?

Econazole nitrate is an antifungal which belongs to a class of medicines known as the imidazoles. It works by inhibiting the production of a chemical called ergosterol, which is a component of the fungal cell membrane. Damage to this membrane cannot be repaired and this interferes with the fungal cell's ability to reproduce, hence the infection is controlled. Econazole is used in the treatment of fungal infections of the skin such as ringworm (tinea), athlete's foot and fungal nappy rash and fungal infections of the genital area.
