How does it work?

The mode of action of enoximone is not fully understood. Part of its action is though to be due to inhibition of the phosphodiesterase III enzyme in the heart muscle cells. This increases cellular calcium ion concentration enabling the muscle fibres to contract with greater force. The heart pumps out blood more efficiently thus reducing the strain of congestion in a failing heart.

What is it used for?

Congestive heart failure

Warning!

Regular monitoring of weight, blood pressure and fluid / salt (electrolyte) balance are advised during treatment.

Use with caution in

Any long term disorder affecting the muscle of the heart (cardiomyopathy)

Children

Heart valve disease

Not to be used in

Known sensitivity or allergy to any ingredient

This medicine should not be used if you are allergic to one or any of its ingredients. Please inform your doctor or pharmacist if you have previously experienced such an allergy. If you feel you have experienced an allergic reaction, stop using this medicine and inform your doctor or pharmacist immediately.

Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

Diarrhoea

Difficulty in sleeping (insomnia)

Low blood pressure (hypotension)

Faster than normal heart beat (tachycardia)
