How does it work?

Bismuth has several actions in the gut. It forms a coating over ulcers in the stomach and gut protecting them from stomach acid and allowing them to heal. It also kills bacteria, including those which are now believed to aggravate ulcers. It is used to treat upset stomach, indigestion and nausea and to control common diarrhoea.

What is it used for?

  • Diarrhoea
  • Nausea
  • Upset stomach characterised by stomach pain and burning, nausea and excess gas (dyspepsia)
  • Warning!

  • This medicine may discolour the stools, but this is harmless.
  • Use with caution in

  • Avoid use of aspirin and salicylates
  • Diabetes
  • Gout
  • Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
