How does it work?
This medicine contains two ingredients, papaveretum and hyoscine hydrobromide.
Papaveretum is a mixture of three opioids, morphine hydrochloride, codeine hydrochloride and papaverine hydrochloride. They are powerful analgesic (pain-relieving) medicines. They act directly on the brain and spinal cord to alter the perception of pain. They act like the endorphins (naturally occurring hormones)which are produced in the brain and spinal cord and which stop transmission of pain sensation. Nausea and vomiting are common side effects of papaveretum.
Hyoscine is an anti-cholinergic medicine used to control nausea and to dry up secretions before surgical operations. It also acts as a mild sedative.
This injection is used as pre-operative medication.
