How does it work?

Ortho-creme contains the active ingredient nonoxinol 9, which is a chemical spermicide (kills sperm). Nonoxinol 9 works by disrupting the cell membranes of sperm, causing the contents of the cells to leak out. This affects the motility of the sperm and ultimately leads to their death. Nonoxinol 9 does not provide adequate birth control if used alone. It is only effective when used with barrier methods such as condoms, diaphragms or caps. It is used for additional protection against the risk of becoming pregnant.

What is it used for?

- Spermicide to be used in conjunction with a barrier method of contraception

Warning!

- If vaginal or penile irritation occurs, discontinue use. If symptoms worsen or continue for more than 48h hours, medical advice should be sought.

Not to be used in

- Women with no sensation in the vagina

This medicine should not be used if you are allergic to one or any of its ingredients. Please inform your doctor or pharmacist if you have previously experienced such an allergy. If you feel you have experienced an allergic reaction, stop using this medicine and inform your doctor or pharmacist immediately.

Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

Certain medicines should not be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding. However, other medicines may be safely used in pregnancy or breastfeeding providing the benefits to the mother outweigh the risks to the unborn baby. Always inform your doctor if you are pregnant or planning a pregnancy, before using any medicine.
