Nabilone

How does it work?

Nabilone belongs to a group of medicines known as cannabinoids (due to the similarity of their chemical structure with cannabis). Nabilone has been found to be effective in the treatment of sickness (an anti-emetic), although the exact method by which it carries out this function is not fully understood. It is used to treat nausea and vomiting caused by medicines used in the treatment of cancer (chemotherapeutic agents). This medicine is reserved for use in individuals who do not respond to the more commonly used anti-emetics. This is mainly because cannabinoids have potential adverse effects similar to that of cannabis and may cause changes in mood and behaviour.
