How can this medicine affect other medicines?
Rizatriptan should be avoided for 24 hours after the use of ergotamine or its other derivatives because of the risk sudden narrowing of the blood vessels (vasospasm).
Rizatriptan and monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) should not be taken at the same time. MAOIs should be discontinued for 2 weeks prior to starting rizatriptan therapy.
Propranolol may increase the levels of rizatriptan in the blood increasing the risk of side effects.
Sumatriptan and other migrane medicines which work in a similar way (e.g.naratriptan and zolmitriptan) should not be given at the same time as rizatriptan as there is an increased risk of adverse effects.
