Side effects
Medicines and their possible side effects can affect individual people in different ways. The following are some of the side effects that are known to be associated with this medicine. Headache
Blurred vision
Depression
Drowsiness
Confusion
Blood disorders
Muscle weakness
Restlessness
Loss of memory (amnesia)
Skin rashes
Disturbances of the gut such as diarrhoea, constipation, nausea, vomiting or abdominal pain
Low blood pressure (hypotension)
False perceptions of things that are not really there (hallucinations)
Dizziness
Unexpected increase in aggression (paradoxical aggression)
Unexpected excitement (paradoxical excitement)
Crying
The side effects listed above may not include all of the side effects reported by the drug's manufacturer.

How can this medicine affect other medicines?
There may be an increased risk of drowsiness and sedation if lorazepam is taken with any of the following (which can also cause drowsiness):
- alcohol
- tricyclic antidepressants, eg amitriptyline
- MAOI antidepressants, eg phenelzine
- opioid painkillers, eg morphine, codeine, dihydrocodeine
- sedating antihistamines, eg chlorpheniramine
- antipsychotics, eg chlorpromazine, clozapine
- barbiturates, eg phenobarbitone
- other benzodiazepines, eg diazepam
- sleeping tablets.
The use of scopolamine with this medicine is not recommended, as this combination has been associated with an increased risk of sedation, hallucination and irrational behaviour.
Probenecid may increase the blood level of lorazepam.
