Limclair (discontinued in the UK - August 2007)

How does it work?

This medicine binds strongly to calcium and promotes the removal of calcium from the body. Calcium is needed for the formation of strong bones and healthy teeth and is involved in helping the blood to clot. It is also required to transmit nerve signals and help muscles work. However, too much calcium in the blood (hypercalcaemia) can be damaging. This medicine is used to treat hypercalcaemia. It does this by binding to calcium in the blood. The resulting compound is readily removed from the body, and blood levels of calcium fall.
