How does it work?

This preparation contains ispaghula husk in combination with mebeverine. Ispaghula husk is a bulk-forming laxative. When it comes into contact with water it swells and increases the volume of the gut contents. This causes the muscles in the gut to push the contents of the gut along more quickly. Mebeverine acts directly on the smooth muscle in a part of the gut (colon) causing it to relax. It prevents nerve signals getting through to the muscles which also causes the muscle to relax. This prevents the painful muscle spasms associated with irritable bowel syndrome or other gastrointestinal diseases.

Warning!

- It is important to drink plenty of fluids whilst being treated with this medicine.

Use with caution in

- No known conditions

Not to be used in

- Abnormally large or dilated large intestine (megacolon)
- Blockage of the gut (intestinal obstruction)
- Children under 12 years of age
- Compressed and hardened faeces causing a blockage of the bowel (faecal impaction)
- Inability of the muscles of the colon to contract (colonic atony)

This medicine should not be used if you are allergic to one or any of its ingredients. Please inform your doctor or pharmacist if you have previously experienced such an allergy. If you feel you have experienced an allergic reaction, stop using this medicine and inform your doctor or pharmacist immediately.

Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

Certain medicines should not be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding. However, other medicines may be safely used in pregnancy or breastfeeding providing the benefits to the mother outweigh the risks to the unborn baby. Always inform your doctor if you are pregnant or planning a pregnancy, before using any medicine.
