Health Centres - Ethanolamine Oleate Injection
How does it work?
Ethanolamine oleate is an irritant solution that is injected into varicose veins. It works by causing irritation and inflammation of the inside wall of the vein into which it is injected. A blood clot forms on the inflamed area. This clot blocks the vein and fibrous tissue develops resulting permanent blockage and shrinkage of the vein. Blood flow is diverted through other veins. This procedure is known as sclerosing.
