Desferal (Contd)

How can this medicine affect other medicines?

High doses of vitamin C (more than 500mg daily) when taken with desferrioxamine, may cause heart disorders. Heart monitoring is recommended if this combination is used. Vitamin C should only be given to people receiving desferrioxamine regularly, and should not be given during the first month of treatment or to people with heart failure. Desferrioxamine should not be given to people taking prochlorperazine, as this may result in prolonged unconciousness.
