How can this medicine affect other medicines?
Anti-arrhythmics such as amiodarone increase the risk of heart block when taken with diltiazem.
Beta-blockers such as propranolol may slow the heart rate or cause heart block when used with diltiazem.
Diltiazem increases the effect of medicines used to lower blood pressure.
When first taken with other blood pressure lowering medication it may cause a large drop in blood pressure.
Rifampicin increases the removal of diltiazem from the body making it less effective.
Phenytoin and phenobarbital reduce the effect of diltiazem.
Cimetidine increases blood levels of diltiazem.
Diltiazem increases the blood levels of the following medicines:-
phenytoin, digoxin, cyclosporin, carbamazepine, theophylline and aminophylline
Diltiazem may increase the blood levels of tricyclic antidepressants such as imipramine.
