How does it work?

Aci-Jel contains glacial acetic acid as the active ingredient. Acetic acid is the chemical name for vinegar. It is used in the prevention of vaginal infections. The normal vagina provides a suitable environment that supports the growth of many harmless bacteria. These bacteria are useful to the body as they stop the growth of harmful bacteria that could potentially cause an infection. Harmless bacteria thrive in the acid conditions that exist in the vagina. Infection of the vagina results in loss of acidity. After treatment of vaginal infection it is important that the normal vaginal bacteria grow back. Acetic acid is applied directly in the vagina to create this ideal acid environment that enables the normal bacteria of the vagina to grow back. This reduces the chance of reinfection. Acetic acid itself also has the ability to kill or prevent the growth of certain organisms and by this mechanism also prevents infection.

Long term inflammation of the vagina resulting from infection

Warning!

There is a possibility that this preparation may damage latex condoms and diaphragms, and the effectiveness of these contraceptives may consequently be reduced. You should use an alternative method of contraception for at least five days after using this medicine.

This medicine is not to be taken by mouth.
