How is the disease diagnosed?
Encephalitis has many causes. Diagnosis of Japanese encephalitis requires special investigation of blood and spinal fluid and is usually carried out in hospital.

How is Japanese encephalitis treated?
There are no medicines that are effective against this virus, so doctors are advised to treat the symptoms. A victim may require admission to an intensive care unit.
