Ingredients
6 asparagus spears
3 slices of cured ham
3 tablespoons of corn flour
1 pint skimmed/semi skimmed milk
100g grated strong cheese
150 ml single cream
Salt and pepper
Wrap half a slice of ham around each asparagus spear and line next to each other in two small individual oven proof dishes - 3 in each.
Mix the corn flour with a little milk to make a paste in a pan and then pour in most of the rest of the milk. Bring to the heat and keep stirring for a minute or two before the mixture has thickened.
Add most of the cheese (leaving enough to sprinkle on top at the end) and keep stirring until the mixture has thickened and the cheese has melted.
Add the cream and salt and pepper to taste. Once the mixture is thick and creamy pour over the asparagus in the two dishes to completely cover the asparagus and top with the rest of the grated cheese.
Place in the oven at 200 degrees for 10-15 minutes until nice and brown on top. Serve.
