How to wear colour

Spring may be here, but the continuing economic gloom has left most of us feeling dull and grey. You may have noticed that this season's collections are full of vibrant colours and this is just the fashion tonic we all need.

Wearing colour is a great way to lift your spirits and boost your confidence. What's more you'll make those you come into contact with feel happier too, whether on your commute or in the office. If you're not sure which shades are best for you why not treat yourself to a colour consultation with Europe's leading image consultants, colour me beautiful.

Incorporating colour into your wardrobe whether for work or casual wear is the boost we all need. In a work environment you could exchange a white shirt for something more colourful, and don't be afraid to go all out for colour in your casual wear too. Don't forget your make-up either, treat yourself to a new lippy and put the smile back on your face.

Wearing colours - in the right shades for you of course - will make you feel younger, more confident and even give you some “Yes, I can do it!” bravado.

Wearing red
Whether it's scarlet or ruby, geranium or tomato there is a Red available to flatter you. When you need an energy boost Red is the prefect colour to wear as you'll come across as up beat and confident. Wearing Red is certain to bring exhilaration to your day, just don't wear it when you're trying to calm a situation down.

Wearing pink
Wear pink and bring out your inner girl, great shades include baby pink, cyclamen, coral or fuchsia. Be careful when wearing Pink in a work situation. Head to toe won't do: it is best worn as a top, in a print or under a jacket. When you're feeling “off colour” Pink is a great colour to wear as it gives you a flattering complexion.

Wearing green
From apple to emerald, moss to pine there is a Green for you no matter what your colouring. Green is the colour of nature and brings with it a sense of calm and reassurance, so it's the perfect colour if you're feeling anxious or uncertain. Wearing Green will also show that you are full of creativity and imagination.

Wearing purple
If you want to project confidence and individuality Purple is the perfect shade for you. In the workplace choose shades from lavender to damson and you'll show your sensitive caring side. Purple is also a great alternative to black and it will certainly give you a sense of glamour for evening wear.

Wearing blue
Blue will give you a feeling of safety and security. Most people will feel peaceful and confident in Blue as it's a classic and non threatening colour. This season though you need to wear vibrant Blue's that will give you a bit of oomph; look for shades like electric and lapis or soft bluebell and periwinkle. Whatever you do, avoid the navy and white combinations that will make you feel as though you are wearing a uniform.

Wearing orange and yellow
Orange and Yellow can be tricky to wear. Used sparingly however these sunshine colours will bring a smile to even the most die-hard person's face. Rather than wearing an item in solid Orange or Yellow look for these colours in patterns whether that is a pretty floral or funky geometric. They're also great colours for summer accessories so why not have a bit of fun by going mad on bangles and bracelets.
