Perhaps the most devastating effects of drugs that the public has witnessed in recent years is that of former EastEnders star, Daniella Westbrook. Surrounded by drugs from an early age, she took her first line of cocaine at 14. By the time she was 21 she was spending up to £400 a day on drugs.

She once admitted sitting alone in a room thinking that she'd already seen the Richard and Judy show, only to realise that she'd been sitting there for 24 hours. The drug abuse continued. In June 2000 she was photographed leaving an awards ceremony with the septum/colonna of her nose missing.

With a life full of drugs and an attempt to end her life in 1994, life has since changed around for Daniella. After a number of stints in rehabilitation and surgery to correct her nose, she is now happily married to millionaire businessman Kevin Jenkins and their children.

The former presenter of The Big Breakfast show served two years of a four-year sentence after being arrested with drugs during a cocaine bust.

Television presenter Richard Bacon was sacked from Blue Peter after he admitted taking cocaine during a 12-hour drugs and alcohol binge in 1999.

Soul singer Dionne Warwick, famous for hits like Walk On By, was arrested in May 2002 after baggage screeners at Miami International Airport allegedly found 11 suspected marijuana cigarettes in a lipstick container. The charges against her were later dropped.
