Dear Anne
I'm a 22 man and was a virgin up until a couple of nights ago when I had a wild encounter with two lesbians who were curious to be with a man. Intercourse was involved and a condom was always used. The next morning, I started seriously to panic about whether I'd contracted any STDs. How do I find out whether I'm in good health or not? Mark
Dear Mark
As you used a condom you're unlikely to have caught any sexually transmitted diseases or got either of your partners pregnant, an aspect which doesn't seem to have crossed your mind. The absence of any uncomfortable swelling, itching or unpleasant discharge over the next couple of weeks can confirm you've almost certainly got a good bill of health. If you do get any symptoms you can either go to your doctor or to the Genito-Urinary Medicine clinic at your local hospital. You can usually walk straight into a GUM clinic although you may have to wait an hour or two for a check-up and treatment. The way they often test for STDs is to stimulate the prostate gland via your rectum and then to insert a small metal instrument a little like an umbrella into your urethra and rake out anything they may find there. STDs left untreated can have horrible consequences, including insanity, sterility and disfigurement, although antibiotics can deal with them quite readily in the early stages.
In future, though, how about getting to know your partners first so that you can exchange sexual histories? You might even discover that sex is more rewarding when it's part of an ongoing loving relationship.
