Dear Anne
Recently I got my hair cut short and I wasn't satisfied with it. I want my hair to be long again. In two weeks I'm supposed to be a bridesmaid at my sister's wedding. Any suggestions on how to make my hair long in a fortnight? Thanks. Diane
Dear Diane
I'm sorry you're so unhappy with your hair. It can be a shock changing from long to short and it can take some getting used to, as I remember myself on occasions. Wouldn't it be a good idea to get some other people's opinions in case you're just taking a while to adjust to something that suits you?
Sure, you could have hair extensions if you don't mind shelling out around 80 - 100 and taking several hours over the process. Or you can get some great wigs for upwards of 20. On the other hand, maybe the bridesmaid's headdress would suit you very well with a good shampoo and blowdry?
What I'm wondering, though, is whether this is really about your hair at all, or whether underneath is some basic insecurity on your part. Your sister obviously values you as you are or she wouldn't have asked you to be there for her. Although I'm sure you'd like to look your best, attention will mostly be focussed on the bride. This is her day in the limelight and your role is to see to her happiness and wellbeing. If you concentrate on that, you won't have time to be so self-conscious. Just walk proudly with your head held high and smile warmly and happily. That makes a much better impression than any hairdo. People are far more likely to remember whether you were friendly and helpful than what you looked like!
I hope you'll enjoy your supporting role safe in the knowledge that you can be the star of other days and other settings. Good luck!Back to Ask Anne
