Dear Anne
Is it possible to reverse vasectomies? My boyfriend assures me that it is, and agrees to do so when the time is right. Are they 100% successful? Anonymous
Dear Anonymous
Yes, it is sometimes possible to reverse vasectomies but success rates vary and there can never be a 100% guarantee. It depends on how long ago the operation was done, how well it has taken, how the body has responded and what method was used. It would be worth talking things through with your boyfriend. Does he actually want children? Do you? And if he is unable to father children, is being with him more important to you than having kids? Would you both consider adoption or fostering? How will you make your lives rich and fulfilling if you don't have children?
If you and your boyfriend want more information about his chances of having a vasectomy reversed, his GP is your first port of call. The GP may also be able to tell you what costs, if any, will be involved, and after that it may be a good idea to talk to the surgeon who operated on him. Contacting the Brook Advisory Clinic could also be useful. You can find the number of their nearest branch from Directory Enquiries. It's time for some serious talking, wouldn't you say? Good luck with this!Back to Ask Anne
