Dear Anne
I am an 18 year old girl and have a baby but since having her my breasts have gone saggy and they have shrunk. I have done a lot of exercise to try and firm them back but nothing has worked. I was considering having surgery but I would much rather try to build them up naturally. Is there any way that I can make my breasts firmer and bigger naturally without having surgery? I would be most thankful if you could give me some advice. Thank you. Donna
Dear Donna
Congratulations on becoming a mother! You're now discovering, though, that motherhood means you have become a woman rather than a girl. What you're experiencing is a normal sign of physical maturity and as such is valuable in its own right.
It's a good idea to regain your normal weight. Exercises like circling your arms backwards, or holding your arms in front of you and repeatedly pushing the palms of your hands together, both help strengthen the muscles which hold up the breasts so they're less saggy. There are also some machines at the gym which can help with this but you need a proper induction to show you how to use them effectively. And bras that offer good, firm support are useful too.
Some people say that using a shower head to spray your breasts morning and evening with cold water can help firm them up. However, breast tissue is mainly fat so don't expect miracles.
Having breast implants is expensive around 1000-2000 per breast and it can be painful. It can also make it more difficult for your breasts to function normally so if you're considering having other children, it might be worth your while to postpone it for several years. If you decide on surgery, the surgeon at the clinic can explain about possible risks and side effects.
Meantime, aren't you more than just a pair of breasts? You're a real, lovable woman who knows she has enough good qualities to attract men. Surely your confidence doesn't depend on one (or two) portions of your anatomy?
I hope you enjoy motherhood, and your womanhood too. Good luck!
