I purchased a £15 gold coloured double headboard from Argos almost 15 years ago. I recently bought a £1 tin of white metal paint. After lightly sanding the headboard then giving it three coats of white paint, the headboard looks fabulous and modern. Cheaper than buying new.

I buy very good quality fabric like Romo for fraction of the original price and make my own cushions covers. You can get 3 cushion covers from a meter. Another hint, i hand sew my covers.

really good idea to use sites like gumtree - you never know what items people might be getting rid of - and sometimes they might even be free to a good home ;-)

M&S always seem to do some kind of deal - 3 for 2 on this and that... helpful for soft furnishings etc.
