My sister lives on a 70-foot narrowboat and is just about to paint the interior, what colour scheme would you suggest?

I would suggest 2 pale colours as the basis of the scheme. Passion Flower by Fired Earth is a white that works well in both bedrooms and living spaces on land! I would compliment that with a pale blue, something like Mount Fuji by Crown. You could follow that through with blinds, seat coverings in the blue which will add to the water/coastal theme that is in vogue.
