Tiscali Personal Webspace: How to upload to your personal webspace

Tiscali recommends WS-FTP as a reliable program to upload files to your personal webspace. A trial version of this software can be downloaded by clicking here.

Once you have installed the software it will implant itself into your Start Menu in a manner similar to the image below:

If you click on the selected option above labelled WS_FTP95 LE you will see the below screen. On this screen you need to follow these steps:

Step 1: Click on New to create a new Profile
Step 2: Create a new Profile Name called Tiscali
Step 3: Enter the Tiscali Host Name/Address in the second field down (as in Step 3) with the value ftp.myweb.tiscali.co.uk
Step 4: Enter your login username in lower case in the field UserID (these details are the same as your Tiscali email or login details so long as you have not modified these since registering).
Step 5: In the Password field enter your login password bearing in mind this value is case sensitive. There is a useful feature here in the form of the anonymous password checkbox which allows you to view your password as you type it if ticked (to ensure it is typed correctly). As in the screenshot below if it is not selected it appears as a series of stars. The password can be saved by ticking the Save Pwd checkbox to save having top repeatedly enter it.
The remaining details should be completed as per the screenshot below.

Next select the second tab along the top labelled Startup and make sure there is no value in any of the fields, especially the initial remote site folder field. If you would like to specify the folder where you have saved some offline pages then you can specify this in the Initial Local folder e.g. C:\Myweb

The remaining default options on the session properties can be left as they are as indicated in the two screenshots below. It is essential that the Passive transfers checkbox must be ticked before uploading.

If you want to use a firewall please consult the firewall suppliers to ensure you have it configured correctly.

Once you have checked all of the above settings click on OK to save these changes and it will then log you into your webspace.
NOTE: You may be prompted to re-enter your password and you should be careful to enter it correctly.

You will then see the following screen reflecting the status of your webspace currently:

The main window allows you to view your webspace settings:

Location 6: This area on the main page shows a directory on your PC where you would like to save your offline webpages while you are preparing them to upload to your website. You can change this folder by typing into the local system location along the top of the main screen. Any webpages which you wish to place on your website must be placed in this folder before they can be uploaded using WS_FTP LE.
Location 7: This area shows the remote webspace directory where you can upload your webpages to on the Tiscali webspace.
NOTE: Your main homepage must appear in this area with the name index.html all in lowercase.
Location 8: This shows you details about your webspace allocation and usage currently. This appears to show you your quota e.g. 9.55 of 19.77MB usage. Any error messages during login will also appear in this area.
