Common symptoms of security breaches

 
Due to the increasing number of security threats on the Internet it can sometimes be confusing knowing which worm or virus your computer may  have been infected with. Scroll the list of symptoms below which identify known common threats and provide links to how to clean your system and protect yourself against future threats.

  1. Malicious Software Removal Tool
    The Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool checks Windows XP, Windows 2000, and Windows Server 2003 computers for and helps remove infections by specific, prevalent malicious software%u2014including Blaster, Sasser, and Mydoom. When the detection and removal process is complete, the tool displays a report describing the outcome, including which, if any, malicious software was detected and removed.

  2. Sasser
    Your computer keeps shutting down every time you try to connect to the Internet. Related error messages including a system shutdown message related to a  Sass or Sasser process similar to the following:

  3. MSBlast
    An error message containing the text RPC Service Terminated unexpectedly.
    • Your computer shuts down every 30-60 seconds.
    • An error message containing NT Authority System shutting down or SVCHost.exe fatal error.
    • You may not be able to copy or paste any items in other applications such as Microsoft Word.

  4. Messenger spam
    Unsolicited Messenger pop-ups can be very annoying and potentially harmful. These messages utilise susceptible connection  ports on your computer. A few simple steps can be undertaken to prevent these messages appearing depending on your operating system.
