Check your mail settings in Microsoft Outlook 2000

How to view your emails using Micorosft Outlook
 
If you read your mail using Microsoft Outlook, and are having problems, the first step is to check your settings.
  • To do this, open Outlook, and on the top navigation bar, click Tools and then Services (or in some versions of Outlook Accounts)

     
  • When you click Services you will see this screen:

     
  • Here, click the name of your connection, and then click Properties. You will then see this screen:

     
  • Here, check that your email address is correct. Then click servers to go to this screen:

     
  • Here, check that the Incoming mail POP3 and Outgoing mail SMTP servers are set correctly as in this screen. Check that your username appears correctly in the field Incoming mail server - account name then click the tab Connections to see this screen:

     
  • Here, make sure that Connect using my phone line has a dot to the left of it, and that the Modem - use the following dial up networking connection is set to Tiscali. Then click the Properties button to see this screen:

     
  • On this screen you need to check you are calling the right Tiscali number for your package. These are:
        Anytime 1470,0808 993 3031
        Daytime
    1470,0808 993 3151
        ISDN 1470,0845 661 4682
        Offpeak 1470,0808 993 3050
        Pay As You Go
    0844 052 9009
        Surftime 1470,0844 040 4102
        50/100 1470,0808 993 3030
     
  • Make sure the figure 1470, is in front of the number you are dialling. Then click Options to see the next screen.

     
  • Here, check that the settings are shown, and click Security

     
  • Check that the settings are as shown, and then click the Networking tab

     
  • Unless you are on a network, make sure that only the Internet protocol TCP/IP box is checked. Then click Properties. You will then see this screen:

     
  • On this screen make sure that the Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain DNS Server address automatically have a dot in the button beside them. Then click OK to return to the previous screen. Once there click the sharing tab to see this screen:

     
  • On this screen, make sure the settings are as shown. Then click the Networking tab, and once on that screen, click settings. You will then see this screen:

     
  • Check that the settings are as shown, and then click OK
